Camilla, Queen Consort of the United Kingdom (born July 17, 1947, in London, England), has held the title since 2023 as the wife of King Charles III. Her relationship with Charles, which began during his marriage (1981–96) to Princess Diana, initially sparked controversy. Over time, however, Camilla has garnered public acceptance, largely due to her self-deprecating humor and easygoing demeanor.

Camilla Shand, the eldest of three siblings, was born to Rosalind Shand (née Cubitt) and Bruce Shand, a family rooted in the upper class. Much of her early life was spent at their country estate in East Sussex, where she developed a strong affinity for outdoor activities, particularly excelling as a horsewoman. Her education included attendance at Queen’s Gate School in London, followed by a finishing school in Switzerland. She furthered her studies at the University of London Institute in Paris, albeit briefly. In 1965, Shand made her debut in society as a debutante. She later worked as a receptionist and was an active participant in the social scene. Known for her charisma and fun-loving nature, she was a popular figure among her peers.
