Suryakumar Yadav, a distinguished Indian cricketer, has made notable contributions in both domestic cricket for Mumbai and the Indian Premier League (IPL), playing for Mumbai Indians. Born on September 14, 1990, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, he was raised by his parents, Ashok and Sapana Yadav, alongside his sister, Dinal. He completed his schooling at Atomic Energy Central School in Mumbai and later earned a commerce degree from Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science.
Inspired by his father, Ashok, an electrical engineer at BARC, Suryakumar dedicated himself to cricket. He started his training at a cricket camp in the BARC colony and further honed his skills at the Elf Vengsarkar Cricket Academy.
His professional cricket journey began with his first-class debut for Mumbai against Delhi on December 15, 2010. He marked his presence with impressive scores of 73 and 7. Suryakumar’s IPL career started in 2012 with the Mumbai Indians, though his playtime in the initial season was minimal. A significant moment in his career was when he was acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders for ₹70 Lakhs in the 2014 IPL auctions.
On the personal side, Suryakumar tied the knot with Devisha Shetty on July 7, 2016, celebrating an intimate wedding surrounded by close ones.
In the 2018 IPL auctions, he rejoined Mumbai Indians for ₹3.2 crores and was subsequently retained for ₹8 crores for the 2022 season. His international debut was on March 14, 2021, in a T20 match against England in Ahmedabad, where he hit a six on his first ball in international cricket, a first for an Indian in T20 Internationals. He scored 57 runs off 31 balls in that game.
